David May Qualifies for The 2011 U.S Open!

David May, one of the top-ranked junior golfers in the nation when he graduated from Auburn High School in 2005, has taken the next step in his career by qualifying for the U.S. Open.

“It feels awesome, it really does, I’ve been working really hard to get better and I’ve started to see results, slowly but surely, over the last couple of months. To finally get to play in a PGA tournament – and for it to be a major championship – it’s just awesome. I’m very, very excited.”

May, 24, completed a journey that began when he was dominating the Syracuse area as a youth, winning the New York State Junior Amateur in 2002 and 2003 and several events on the national AJGA circuit before graduating from Auburn High School and heading off to Clemson University. There, he capped his four-year career by winning the 2009 ACC Championship individual title as a senior.

David has gotten off to a solid start in his first U.S. Open, making the turn on his first nine holes in 1-under par and moving into a 14-way tie for 11th place through 12 holes. He finished his second round at the United States Open on Friday and then played a very long waiting game. The second round was finished Saturday morning, and it turned out that David missed the cut by only a single stroke.
